Free tiers in AI testing tools: September 2026 baseline

Published by AI QA Directory on . Built from the catalogue data as of that date; tool pages carry the current facts.

As of 2026-09-24, 175 of the 330 AI testing tools in the catalogue have a documented free tier. For 45 tools, the source documents that there is no free tier. The other 110 tools have no documented answer. This post is the first free tier baseline, and later monthly updates compare against it.

What counts as a free tier

A free tier is a plan with no charge and no time limit. A free trial does not count, because it ends after a set period. A free tier can still carry usage limits, such as a monthly cap on runs or users.

For some open-source tools, the source for the free tier is the licence file. a11y MCP is one example, with its free tier documented from the repository's LICENSE file.

A documented "no" means the source page was opened and shows no free plan. A missing answer is never read as "no".

Evidence across 330 tools

As of 2026-09-24, the free tier fact splits as follows:

  • documented yes: 175 tools
  • documented no: 45 tools
  • vendor-stated: 10 tools
  • not documented: 100 tools

Vendor-stated means the answer appears only on a marketing page, with no pricing or documentation page confirming it. Not documented means no public page answered the question when we checked. The methodology explains the three evidence levels.

Counts by category

Categories are sorted by name A-Z. Each tool is counted once, under its primary category. All counts are as of 2026-09-24.

Reading the table

In MCP servers for testing, 26 of 28 tools have a documented free tier. In unit test generation, 14 of 17 tools have a documented free tier. In Managed AI QA services, 9 of 11 tools have no documented answer. In natural-language test authoring, the documented yes and documented no counts are both 11.

These figures describe what vendors publish. They say nothing about the limits of each free plan. Plan limits, where printed, are on each tool page with the source and date.

Free tier and pricing model

The catalogue also lists free-tier as one of seven pricing model values. That value is documented for 174 tools as of 2026-09-24. The free tier fact in this post is recorded and verified separately, so the two counts can differ. The pricing model baseline covers all seven models.

Where to filter

The free tier hub groups tools by this fact. The tools list filters by free tier alongside category and pricing model. The pricing page shows the printed plans and prices behind each record.

Sources

This post is built from the catalogue's own records. Each tool's free tier source is linked on its tool page.
